Some people think that creating a playoff for college football would ruin the best part of college football, the regular season. As it is, the regular season is pretty much like a playoff because if you lose a game you pretty much can kiss your national championship aspirations goodbye.
With an 8 team playoff, the stakes would be the same. You have to be an 'elite' team to qualify for the playoff. Just think of our current March Madness, then add the most popular sport in America and you've got a recipe for a great season with tons of fan following.
TV ratings would sore for both the regular season and the playoffs. Hype would be even greater because of the elimination possibility.
Think of the possibilities!!

I like the idea of a playoff and it would be a lot of fun and good since normally the top 2 teams are disputed and lately there are a couple teams not 1 or 2 that are undefeated and deserve a chance. How do you decide the top 8 though? Part of the complaints on the BCS is that really good teams don't get BCS bowl games, not just the championship. When you get down the rankings just a little bit it gets mixed up in every poll even more, so I think it would leave even more teams feeling like they deserve to be there on the outside looking in as they get to the postseason.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you're right Jeremy. I am not looking for a perfect solution to the BCS system because even with a 16 team playoff teams would be bickering to get in. I just want a solution to where the teams can play eachother in order to win the championship, not just let a computer decide.
